The reasons for salinity of water are:

* Evaporation of water from the oceans

* Formation of ice in the sea

* From irrigation the saline discharge

Salinity of water can be reduced by using less salty source of water or by using mineral weathering or establishing  a crop rotation system utilising both salt sensitive and salt tolerant crops.
