The continuous interchange of the forms of water on Earth is called the water cycle or hydrogical cycle.

It involves the three different processes of evaporation, condensation and precipitation.

Water from the surface of the Earth evaporates on heating and changes into water vapour. Approximately 80% of water vapour is obtained from the oceans, and the remaining 20% from inland water and vegetation.

The water vapour is carried up in the air, where it cools. On cooling, water vapour in the atmosphere condenses, changes back to its liquid state and forms clouds.

When cloud particles get too heavy to remain suspended in the air, they fall back to the Earth as precipitation. Precipitation occurs in a variety of forms- hail, rain , snow , sleet etc.
