there is a total of 8 major industrial regions namely Mumbai-Pune Industrial Region, Hugli Industrial Region, Bangalore-Tamil Nadu Industrial Region, Gujarat Industrial Region, Chotanagpur Industrial Region, Vishakhapatnam-Guntur Industrial Region, Gurgaon-Delhi-Meerut Industrial Region, and Kollam-Thiruvananthapuram Industrial Region.

The region owes its development and growth to hydro- electricity from Bhakra-Nangal complex and thermal power from Harduaganj, Faridabad and Panipat. Sugar, agricultural implements, vanaspati, textile, glass, chemicals, engineering, paper, electronics and cycle are some of the important industries of this region.
