The practice of guarding and improving a community’s health by way of health education, preventive medicine, applying sanitary measures, monitoring environmental risks, and controlling communicable diseases is known as public health.

In the recent years, India has initiated the development of extensive infrastructure. At the rural level (villages) Primary Health Centres (PHCs) have set up a number of hospitals. These hospitals are run by professionals and para-medical professionals trained in pharmacy, medical and nursing.
A considerable expansion has been noted in the provision of health services. The number of dispensaries and hospitals have increased significantly and hospital beds too have increased to a large extent. Together with the above nursing personnel too have risen.
The provision of various facilities has led to the eradication of polio, leprosy, small pox, and other fatal diseases.
