The air enters the nasal passage through nostrils. then it moves towards the trachea.At the end , the trachea divides into two branches called bronchi which further inside the lungs has many bronchioles (sub branches) . At the end of the bronchioles, sac like structures called alveolar sacs are present, which increase the surface area for absorption and helps in the exchange of gases. these alveoli are surrounded by cluster of blood capillaries which bring deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs. here the deoxy blood which is being carried by blood capillaries diffuses with the oxyblood in alveoli. from here the oxygen enters the capillaries which is returned back to the heart for transportation whereas the carbon dioxide enters the blood in alveoli and is exhaled out.
