Answer:

Breathing is the taking in (inhalation) of air (O2) and releasing out of (CO2).

When you breathe in, or inhale, your diaphragm contracts and moves downward. This increases the space in your chest cavity, and your lungs expand into it. The muscles between your ribs also help enlarge the chest cavity. They contract to pull your rib cage both upward and outward when you inhale.

While respiration involves the following pathway of air-

  1. Nose
  2. Nostrils
  3. Nasal Chamber
  4. Nasal Passage
  5. Pharynx (common passage for food and air)
  6. Larynx
  7. Trachea
  8. Bronchi
  9. Bronchioles
  10. Alveoli (site of gaseous exchange due to diffusion)
