digestive system is a complex process becoz it involves....large no.of organs

It is an important process that breaks down the proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals into simpler forms so that it can be absorbed easily into the body cells. During this process, proteins are converted into amino acids, carbohydrates are converted into simple sugars and fats are broken down into fatty acids and glycerol. Many digestive enzymes and hormones act on food, at various stages during the process of digestion. The whole process occurs in a sequential manner.

absorption  is the process by which the products of digestion are absorbed by the blood to be supplied to the rest of the body.

Process of digestion in stomach.

The stomach has branched, tubular glands called GASTRIC GLANDS which secretes gastric juice. Gastric juice contains HCL, protein digesting enzymes: - PEPSIN and MUCUS. The HCL creates acidic medium which facilitates the action of pepsin. Protein digestion starts in stomach. Pepsin breaks down protein into peptones.

Process of digestion in small intestine

The partially digested food from stomach enters the duodenum in a semi-solid state called chime. The small intestine in a human is the site of the complete digestion of food like carbohydrates, protein and fats. It receives secretion of liver and pancreas for the purpose. Digestive juice from liver (bile) and from pancreas (pancreatic juice) and digestive juices of intestinal gland acts simultaneously in the lumen of the small intestine.
