Describe the mechanism of translocation of solutes. Name the most appropriate theory for the translocation of solutes in plants. Who proposed this theory ?
Answers
Translocation is the movement of materials from leaves to other tissues throughout the plant. Plants produce carbohydrates (sugars) in their leaves by photosynthesis, but nonphotosynthetic parts of the plant also require carbohydrates and other organic and nonorganic materials.
Movement of molecules from one place to another is called translocation
Dixon theory of ascending sap or cohesion theory is the most accepted theory of translocation
According to this there is continuous water column through the xylem vessels through the rooftop.
As there is a continuous exploration through transpiration through leaves, water forms a continuous Channel into the xylem vessels and the water reaches to every part of the plant.
This is the most accepted theory of transpiration.
