Layering:
A branch of the plant is pulled towards the ground and a part of it is covered with moist soil leaving the tip of the branch exposed above the ground. The formation of new roots comes from the parts of the plant in the soil. The branch is cut off from the parent plant and it grows to form a new plant.
Plants like Jasmine, Guava and Lemon are grown by this method.

The major methods of asexual propagation are cuttings, layering, division, and budding/grafting. Cuttings involve rooting a severed piece of the parent plant; layering involves rooting a part of the parent and then severing it; and budding and grafting are joining two plant parts from different varieties.
