The processes to enrich the ore of aluminum are:
(1). Chemical Separation-In this method the gangue and ore are separated on the basis of their chemical properties. The aluminium ore such as bauxite or aluminum oxide are separated chemically using the Baeyer's process.
The bauxite ore in the form of powder is firstly with the solution of hot sodium hydroxide to obtain sodium aluminate.
Al2O3+2NaOH--->2NaAlO2+H2O
After this, the filtration is done. In this, aodium aluminate reacts with hydrochloric acid to form the precipitate of aluminum hydroxide.
NaAlO2+HCl+H2O--->Al(OH) 3+NaCl
This aluminum hydroxide is heated, washed and dried to obtain the pure aluminum which is also known as alumina.
2Al(OH) 3--->Al2O3+3H2O
