The drafting of the constitution was performed by an assembly of the representatives that were elected. This assembly later came to be known as Constituent Assembly.
The elections were held in July 1946 for the Constituent Assembly. This Assembly later adopted the constitution on 26th November 1949.
The constitution came into effect on 26th January 1950. Therefore in our country India, we celebrate 26th of January as our Republic Day every year.
This constitution made by the Constituent Assembly has been accepted by us almost sixty years ago.
