1. In 18th century, a new social group emerged called wealthy middle class, who got their wealth through overseas trading and manufacturing goods like silk textiles. Most of them were educated and were professional in various jobs. They were influenced by the philosophers like John Locke, Rousseau, and Montesquieu.

1. Locke criticized the rights and powers given to the kings. Rousseau proposed a government based on social contract between people and their representatives in his book The social contract. He also gave the idea of one person one vote. Montesquieu in his The Spirit of the Laws proposed a division of power within the government between the legislative, the executive and the judiciary.

2. Influenced by all these philosophers ideas, the wealthy middle class people believed that no group of society should be privileged by birth but it should be by their merit.

3. The ideas of philosophers spread in the society, and people were against the king. At this moment, when they heard that king decided to increase the taxes, they became angry.
