In pitcher plant (Nepenthes) the entire leaf has modified for the purpose of capturing insects. The leaf base is modified into a broad flattened structure and the lamina has transferred into a pitcher to capture the insects. The leaf apex has modified into a lid that closes the pitcher as soon as an insect enters inside.
