when the narrator first met the two boys (Nicola and Jacopo) he was attracted with them from their work . They were selling wild strawberries with great enthusiasm in sunlight  which attracted the narrator to the boys

The narrator met both the boys on his first visit to Verona. They were selling strawberries and he was impressed by their sincerity and earnest eyes. The narrator felt that they were sincere and hard working and bought the strawberries from them although his driver told him not to buy as the fruit was cheaper in the city.
