Nemmeli desalination plant is the second water desalination plant which is situated in the city of Chennai after the Minjur desalination plant.
This desalination plant has been in Operation since the year 2013 and since then it has been a great relieve the residence of the Chennai City because being a metropolitan city there is shortage of water supply in that city.
The process Technology involved in this plant is Marine sea water intake system and pretreatment system consisting of disc filters followed by ultrafiltration.
The parts used in the plant are imported from different countries like the disc filters and the ultrafiltration membranes are imported from Israel and the extra reverse osmosis membranes are transported from Japan.
This plant is setup on the coastline of Bay of Bengal.
