Answer:
Respiratory System of Prawn: Prawn respires in the aquatic medium and it carries three sets of organs for the purpose—lining of the branchiostegite, epipodites and gills. All these organs are enclosed within a special chamber on each side of the cephalothorax, which is called gill-chamber.
Respiratory organs in prawn- Branchiostegite, epipodite and book gills
Explanation:
Prawns respire mainly through branchiostegite, epipodite and book gill that are enclosed into a special chamber on each side of cephalothorax , called as gill chamber.
1.Branchiostegite-It serves as respiratory surface which helps in gaseous exchange.
2. Epipodite- It contain leaf like membrane that is present on the coxal segment of each maxilliped. This structure is located anterior to the gill chamber.
3. Book Gills-Gills are the main respiratory organ or called as the primary respiratory organ present on each lateral side of the cephalothorax, beneath the branchiostegites. 8 gills are attached with thoracic wall by root like structure, called gill root. The gills are crescent shaped structure and size increases from anterior to posterior. Each gill contain base on which leaf like gill plates are arranged called book gill.
