Oxidation is the loss of electrons. since aluminium (and other elements in the same group ) has a valency of +3, they lose 3 electrons to form cations( positively charged ions) like Al 3+.  These ions form (ionic) bonds with anions(negatively charged ions) like OH- to form Al(OH)3.

Hope this helps! :)
