It has been my experience that most people are rude to people who are either rude themselves or lazy, non-performer and casual in their life. If you are nice to people and do your job well in a nice manner, even the rude people would be nice to you. Many people find it convenient to be rude particularly when they are powerful because rudeness produces quick results.
