there are 5 physiographic divisions in India

1. The Himalayas

the Himalayas extend from Jammu and Kashmir to arunachal pradesh in india. there are three mountain ranges that run parallel to each other in the himalayan mountain system the shivalik, the lesser Himalayas and the himadri. these ranges are bottom to top.

2. The north Indian Plains

this is the region lying between the himalaya and the peninsula. it is mainly plain region and fertile due to ganga river basin. there are the aravalis in the western part and the part west to aravalis in a rainshadow region called thar desert.

3. The peninsula

this is the region below the north Indian Plains and tapering towards the indian ocean. it has many plateaus and mountain ranges like the marwar, mewad, malwa, bundelkhand, baghel khand and chhota nagpur plateau and mountain ranges like the eastern and western ghats, the satpuda and vindhya.

4. the coastal region

it's is the coastal plain of india which is divided into eastern and western coast. the eastern coast is characterized by mouth of many peninsular rivers.

5. the island group

there are the marine islands called lakshdweep and andaman and Nicobar and coastal island called new Moore island. the southernmost tip of india the indira point is in the Nicobar island
