The novel made us aware of the condition of Jews during the World War II . We got to know the injustice that they faced.
Otto Frank ( Anne's father ) worked in the food products business but went in to hiding in 1942 when the SS sent a called up notice for Marogt .
That hiding was just above his office behind a grey door and no one except Mr.Koophius , Mr. Kraler , Meip and Elli knew about their hiding .
Anne took sometime to adjust there but after sometime she got use to it .
After few days the Van Daans arrived . There was Mr.Van Dan, Mrs. Van Daan and Peter Van Daan ( their only child ) .
Anne and Peter were not good friend but after alomost two years they became frnds and developed a romantic relationship , which Mr. Fank disapproved of. Anne mentioned in the novel that she was not in love with Peter Van Daan cause she was still in love with Peter Wessel ( her ex - boyfriend ) . She even had a dream about Peter Wessel and some of her love for Peter Van Daan was actually meant for Peter Wessel .
But Anne soon lost interest in Peter Van Daan because she thought he lack character and was weak - minded .
Then came the 8th member of the annex Mr.Dussel who shared a room with Anne .
Anne didn't like him at all and would get crazy by his odd nocturnal habbits .
They even had a fight for a table !
During those 2 yrs Anne changed from a spoiled , somewhat naive girl of 13 to self - aware young woman of 15 .
In the end of the novel Anne also said that there were 2 Anne one was that everybody saw and the other was the one who no one saw .
Anne shared every little detail of those 2 years with her diary which named as " kitty " ( the diary was her 13th birthday gift ).
But in the year 1944 the Gestapo raided the annex and the family was sent to Auschwitz .
