Police organization of Cornwallis:
- For so many years Police were 'under the control' of Zamindars. It was taken far from the Zamindars and given over to the Superintendent of the Police at District wise.
- Lord Cornwallis organised the police into regular force. A 'superintendent of police' looked after each district with the assistance of a deputy superintendent of police.
- Each district was divided into thanks under darogas. Villages and towns were 'looked after' by chowkidars and kotwals.
