Several political changes took place under the colonial rule in India .

1. In about 190 years , since 1757 , the British established direct rule over large parts of India and indirectly ruled over other local kingdoms or princely states .

2. Till 1857 , the EEIC ruled the conquered territories in the Indian subcontinent . The British crown exercised direct control .

3. The rise of an organized opposition to British rule by Indians . Which was initially led by local zamindars , peasants , sepoys and tribal people . But later , became more organized under English-educated groups , known as Nationalists .
