world bank pressurized the govt. to give up its control over water supply
govt. sold these rights to an mnc
company increased water charges by 4 times
this led to a spontaneous popular protest
in January 2000 FE DECOR was formed
govt. agreed to negotiate and strike ended but nothing changed
another strike followed in April
power of people forced the mnc to flee the city
the contract of mnc was cancelled
it is known as Bolivia's water war.
