An object is in motion when its distance from another object is changing. ... A reference point is a place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion. An object is in motion if it changes position relative to a reference point. You assume that the reference point is stationary, or not moving.

Reference point is any place or point or coordinate which you take as standard with respect to which you will standardize other phenomena relatively. Suppose you want to measure distance of a coffee shop and a cyber cafe from your house and you start measuring from your house. Then your house is the reference point. Similarly if you start measuring distance from cyber cafe to your house and to the coffee shop then cyber cafe becomes reference point.
