Describe the positive and negative aspects of diversity in india
Answers
★ Positive and negative aspects are generally an individual conception and may not be applied in general.
Many aspects that may appear negative today may have served a good purpose earlier.
All aspects have to be judged in ref to time, place and environment. Indian Culture is a cluster or jungle of aspects being in existence since time immemorial.
Some important aspects of culture I will cover here: -
Pluralism and diversity. This to my mind is the biggest strength that made it exist for centuries.
Pluralism in religion, beliefs, rituals and traditions, castes, Gods to worship, language, dress, dances and food etc.
Melting Pot. Indian culture since ages have provided all kind of people and thoughts to come here and get melted in it.
Parsis, muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains beside Hindus exist in the same pot and enjoy the living.Tolerance and Equality.
The Indian culture provides space and equal space to all to exist.
Living and Nonliving. This distinction can only be found almost non existent in India. Here we pray both living and nonliving.
Celebrations. It was agreed longback that in the core of the existence of the universe lies the Happiness.
Therefore here everything is celebrated even the death rituals end in celebrations and good food is served to the community with sweets.
Non violence and sacrifice. Violence was considered as the last resort to solve a dispute and in day to day life more importance was given to sacrifice self interest to seek long term happiness.
Mahatma Gandhi had used Non Violence as a weapon against the British Rule to get over the evils they spread in India.
Family Bond. It was learnt that the basic building block of a community or nation is the family. It implies that the infants must get the best upbringing and that demands a stable family.
Even today most families have three generations staying together and the divorce rates are the lowest in the world.
Some negative aspects that are seen today.
(a). Rigidity in adopting the changes according to the time. Caste system is the case in hand.
(b) Not to destroy the enemies with maximum punishment, this had allowed them to revive again and cause more problems.Pakistan is one such example that should have been crushed for ever in 1971 and in other previous wars.
(c) Cleaning habits. Here the tendency to keep own premises clean but to neglect the surroundings is painful. Swach Bharat abhiyan has been started in this context.
(d) It will take more time for males to change the attitude towards the women who now are also working outside the secured walls of the homes.
(e) Low adherence to the laws.
(f) Due to foreign rules for a long time with exorbitant taxes, tax evasion is not seen as a bad thing in the community.
There is a contradiction also if a tree is rigid it will break faster than the one that yields to the forces.
