After polling, the Election Commission undertakes the work of counting the votes. The votes are counted under the supervision of Returning Officers and Observers who are appointed by the Election Commission. After the counting of votes is complete, the Returning Officer declares the name of the candidate who has received the largest number of votes, as the winner. The candidate is declared to have been returned by the constituency to the concerned house.
