Following are the functions of PM:

The first function of the Prime Minister is the formation of Cabinet.

Allocation of departments to the minsters is done by the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister presides over the meetings of the cabinet.

The Prime Minister takes care of the departments and functions of the ministers.


He is the one who takes all decisions & runs administration.Some of the most crucial powers are mentioned below like -

1.He/She appoints the cabinet ministers.

2.He/She advises the President to dissolve Lok Sabha before its term expires.

3.He/She advises the President on important appointments like auditor general of India ,chairman of UPSC etc.

4. He/She presides over the meetings of cabinet as well as council of ministers

1) He acts as the ex-officio chairman of Rajya Sabha.

2) He act as President when a vacancy occurs in the office of the president due to resignation, removal, death or otherwise for a maximum period of 6 month within which president has to be elected by the Election commission of India.

3) He is the chancellor of all Central Universities.

4) He represent India in almost all foreign delegation.

5) He is the connecting link between the executive and the legislature as being an executive he is the chairman of Rajya Sabha (a legislative wing).

6) He conducts the business of Rajya Sabha.

7) Responsible for maintaining quorum in Rajya Sabha.

8) Parliamentary Committee member from Rajya Sabha are appointed by him.
