Srilanka is a country in Asia just few kilometres away from Tamil Nadu coast.
Sri Lanka had two groups of people -Sinhala speakers 74 percent in the country and Tamil speakers which were 18 percent.

Here in Sri Lanka after independence, leaders favoured Sinhala language and Tamil language was totally ignored.
1.Sinhala became the official language of the country.
2.Buddhism became the only religion in the country.
3.Students of Sinhala speaking community got many benefits as they were given admission in schools, colleges and universities.

But Tamil speakers were totally ignored and thus they felt alienated and demanded Tamil to be official language. But the demand was ignored.
Also after some years Tamils demanded Independent state that is Tamil Elam. But it was also refused.

This created tension between the country and relationships of both the communities became worse and thus it led to a civil war in the country.
