Parliament performs the following functions :
I. Legislative Functions : Parliament legislates on matters that fall within the central list. It legislates the law by the law making procedure of three readings followed by the signature of the President.
II. Executive Functions : The Parliament exercises control over the executive through Question Hour, Adjournment Motions and the Motions of No confidence.
III. Impeachment Power : The Parliament has powers to impeach the President and the Judges of the High Court and the Supreme Court. .
IV. Amendment Power : The Parliament alone has the ‘ powers to amend the provision enshrined in the Constitution of India. The Amendment is done through three procedures :
o By simple majority.
o By special majority i. e. two-third majority.
o By special majority and the ratification of the state legislatures.
V. Platform for debate : Parliament is the highest form of discussion and debate on public issues and national policy in any country. Parliament can seek information about any matter.
