It is a process in which oil or fats are hydrolised withy 20 percent of Sodium Hydroxide to give soap and glycerol. The process is known as Saponification. Saponification is the alkaline hydrolysis of Easter(CH3COOC2H5) to give the salts of the corresponding Carboxylic acid and the alcohol.
