After the defeat of the imperial Germany after the World War 1 and the abdication of the emperor ( Kaiser William II ) the politicians and the Catholics of Germany got a chance to recast German polity.

They drafted a constitution for Germany that provided Right to vote to everyone (adults) including Women .

But the weimar republic was unable to gain the support of the people. The people of Germany thought that Germany lost The world war 1 because of the weimar republic.

The weimar republic signed a very humiliating treaty - "treaty of versallies". According to this treaty Germany lost its overseas colonies, 13 % of its own territories , 75 % of its iron , one tenth of its population , 26 % of its coal . In contrast she was forced to pay compensation of 6 billion euros to the allies.

The policies of the weimar republic were too in-stable that it was almost impossible for 1 party to win the elections. It also signed an Article 48 according to which the president could seize control over the state anytime.

All these decisions led to in-stability in Germany which led to economic Crisis and then the fall of Weimar Republic.

The problems faced by the Weimar Republic:

1. The treaty of Versailles- Many Germans held the new republic responsible not only for the defeat of Germany in World War 1 but also for the national humiliation at Versailles.

2. Economic crises- The Weimar was financially crippled by the war compensation impose on Germany.

3. Economic reforms- In 1923, the German government retaliated against the French occupation of Ruhr industrial area, by printing of enormous paper currency notes.

4. The great economic depression- The US withdrawal of loans led the situations worsen in Germany. About 6 million people lost their jobs and inflation became very high.

5. Political instability- The system of proportional representation made achieving a majority near impossible in Germany. Article 48 gave the president the powers to impose emergency.
