Answer:

The aqueous solution of NaCl (brine) undergoes electrolysis. On the anode, we obtain H2 gas, Cl2 gas on the cathode and NaOH as the solution.

Explanation:

2NaCl + 2H2O gives H2(g) + Cl2(g) + 2NaOH(aq)

Answer:

Electrolysis of Brine

When electricity is passed through aqueous solution of sodium chloride (NaCl) also known as brine solution, it decomposes to form sodium hydroxide (NaOH). This process is called cholr-alkali process because of products formed chlor from chlorine and alkali from sodium hydroxide. Chlorine is given at anode and hydrogen at cathode, sodium hydroxide near cathode.
