Explanation:

Continental drift describes one of the earliest ways geologists thought continents moved over time. ... In the early 20th century, Wegener published a paper explaining his theory that the continental landmasses were “drifting” across the Earth, sometimes plowing through oceans and into each other.

QUESTION:-

Describe the process of continental drift formation

ANSWER:-

  • Continental Drift Formation is caused due to tremendous heat and pressure caused by the magma flowing convection currents.

  • It is actually a theory of geology which describes that the continents were all together but got drifted into the ocean due to heat and radioactive processes within the interior of the planet.

The Process Of Continental Drift Formation

  • The continents are resting on enormous pieces of rock which are known as tectonic plates. These plates are always in motion and interact and this process is called plate tectonics.

  • In the process of spreading seafloor, the molten rock rises from the Earth's crust and enlarges new seafloor called oceanic crust to the horizons of the old.

  • The seafloor that spreads is most vibrant along massive mountain ranges underwater which are called mid-ocean ridges.

  • With the wider growth of the seafloor, the continents that are on opposite sides of the ridge shift away from each other. This process is called Continental Drift Formation
