Process of formation of corpus luteum:-
Before ovulation the inner side of follice is avascular but sooner after ovulation blood vessels grows into rupture graftian follicle which becomes filled with blood and it is known as corpus heamorthagium. It is the initial stage of the corpus luteum.
Now, the granulosa cells of ruptured graafian follicle proliferete and then these cells become yellowish due to the accumulation of pigment called lutein. These cells are called lutein and are also known as uteal colls. Lutein cells secrete progesterone. Estrogen is also secreted by corpus luteum.
