myelination is the of coating the axon of each neuron with a fatty coating called myelin which protects the neuron and helps it to conduct signals more efficiently , myelination begins in the brain stem and cerebellum before birth but it is not completed in the frontal cortex until late in adolescence.

The process of myelination:
- Myelination is the binding of each neuron's axon with a fatty binding called myelin that strengthens the neuron and allows it to process signals more effectively.
- Myelination starts in the brain stem and cerebellum before conception but is not accomplished in the frontal cortex before late adolescence. Myelin helps the nerve cells to relay information more easily and enables more complex brain functions.
- The cycle of myelination is of essential significance for proper functioning of the central nervous system. Myelination happens even within the peripheral nervous system.
