Prodution of male gametophyte consists of
1.Pre pollination development :-
Microspore is first cell of gametophytic generation. Its development start when it is in pollen sac.Microspore has cytoplasm and prominent nucleus.Nucleus comes to lie in periphery due to formation of large central vacuole.Nucleus divides by mitosis into 2.A wall is laid between these forming large vegetative and small generative .The latter floats in cytoplasm of vegetative or tube cell.In majority the pollens are shed at this 2 celled stage ,in some others at 3 celled stage.
2. Post pollination:-
On the stigma pollen grains absorbs water and nutrients from stigma via germ pores.Tube cell enlarges and come out of one germ pore.Pollen tube secretes exogenous pectinases and hydrolytic enzymes to create passage in style to ovary. It has tube nucleus and generative cell also goes into it.A pollen grain with pollen tube carrying male gametes is mature male gametophyte. It is formed by 1 meiosis and 2 mitosis.
