Describe the production and trade of copper in India?
Answers
Trade of copper in India:
In India, the production of copper takes place in Khetri mines of Rajasthan and the Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. It is mainly sold to countries like China, Japan, Korea etc.
India is rich in minerals reserve but the distribution of minerals is not uniform and not all minerals are found in huge quantities. For example, copper reserves in India are not as much as the reserves of coal or other minerals. In India, only 2% of the total copper reserve of the world is found.
It is mainly found in the Khetri mines of Rajasthan and Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. But, despite its relatively small reserves, India is among the top 20 copper-producing countries. Most of the copper produced is sold locally in India to Indian companies who use it to make utensils, copper wires, etc. But, a major portion of it is also exported to countries like China, Japan, and Korea.
