-Prophase I,homologous chromosomes further condense and pair.Crossing-over occurs.Spindle fibres form between centrioles,which moves towards opposite poles.
  Significance of second meiotic division
1)Due to crossing over it provides an opportunity for exchange of genes/genetical variation.
2)It maintains definite and constant chromosome number in all organism.
3)Provides physical basis for segregation and independent asssortment.
