There are four forms of coal :–

1. Peat -: It is the poorest quality of coal which is formed by the dead plants decaying for a long time. It consists of high moisture.

2. Lignite -: It is brownish form of coal that contains moisture and high sulphur content.

3. Bituminous -: It is soft and black form of coal that consists of lesser amount of sulphur and also contains carbon. This form of coal is used in the formation of roads.

4. Anthracite -: It is the purest form of coal that contains high amount of carbon(95%).It produces high amount of energy and no moisture in it.
