The UK has been hit with nearly its entire average rainfall for August in just the first half of the month, according to the Met Office.

Figures up to August 13 show there has been 3.4ins (86.1mm) of rain so far as the remnants of Hurricane Bertha swept across the country.

This is just short of the 3.5ins (89.5mm) monthly average .

In terms of individual countries, Scotland has already been lashed with more rain (121.4mm) than its average for August (116.7mm).

The Inverness and Moray areas have been particularly wet and suffered significant flooding at the start of the week.
