What was the reason for the defeat of the Marathas by the British? Thus, by 1818, the entire Indian subcontinent excepting Punjab and Sindh had been brought under British control. The lack of far sightedness, strong central authority and personal enemities between the maratha chiefs became the reason of their downfall and curved the way for Brits!
