Shylock was a Jew moneylender in Venice. He was an enemy of Antonio , and when Antonio asked for three thousand ducats , he made him fall into his trap of an evil bond ., because of which Antonio had to even face the court . At this time , Bassanio helped his friend by even offering ten times the money owned by Antonio to Shylock . Shylock , in some way or other , helped in strengthening the bonds of friendship between Antonio and Bassanio .
