The narrator resisted the futile attempt of shingling her long hair by hiding herself in a dark room and making vehement protests when dragged to shingle her hair.She hid herself inside the cot and paid a deaf ear to those noises calling out for her.This was because in her religion, singled hair were worn by the mourners or the unskilled warriers who had been captured by their enemy.They represented a weak and vallicating persona.
She was humiliated since she did not know of the table ettiquettes and had sat herself down before the bell. Also she was qiute wary of the glances the pale woman gave her. She was new and foriegn to the alien concepts.
