The Jacobin Club was formed by Maximilian Robespierre

Explanation:

  • During the French Revolution, the Jacobins were members of a powerful political group which became synonymous with extreme egalitarianism and violence and led to a revolutionary government from mid-1793-mid-1794. It comprised radical revolutionaries who tracked down the king's overthrow and the rise of the French Republic.
  • Its members were from less prosperous sections of society. They comprise  artisans, small shopkeepers, shoemakers, watch-makers, daily wage earners, and pastry cooks.
  • Large sections of society were persuaded that it was important to pursue the revolution, as the 1791 Constitution only granted the more affluent sections of society political rights. Political clubs were an significant gathering place for people who wanted to talk about government policy, organize themselves, and plan their own forms of action.
  • Jacobins stormed the Palace of Tuileries on the morning of August 10, 1792, massacred King's guards and kept the King as a hostage for several hours. They then wanted the royal family to be imprisoned. The assembly then announced that elections to form the government would take place. All men over the age of 21 years have the right to vote irrespective of wealth
  • It was renamed 'Convention,' the newly formed legislature. The monarchy was abolished on 21 September 1792 and France was proclaimed a Republic. Now people elected their government. There was no hereditary monarchy
  • Maximilian Robespierre, their leader, had instilled his reign with terror and discipline. The Federal Revolutionary Tribunal, which tried ex-nobles and the clergy, members of the other political parties etc., guaranteed equality in all forms of speech and address. Therefore  leaving no trace of the Monarchy or anyone associated to it.
