Inspired by Mustafa Kemal Pasha who were publishing a weekly from Cairo, Maulana Abul Kalam started to publish The Weekly “Al-Hilal” in 1912.
Due to the perfect blend of patriotism with religion, the weekly became so popular and its circulation figures went upto 25,000 copies. The weekly was a platform to attack the policies of the British Government and highlight the problems faced by the common Indians. Its popularity disturbed the British Government and in 1914, the British Government put a ban on the weekly.
But Maulana was unstoppable, few months later, launched a new weekly, called "Al-Balagh". It leaded Maulana to house arrest for 3 years, after release Maulana was again continued to write provocative articles against the British Government.
