1. Democracy means government of the people and answerable to the people. A good democratic government is possible only if people are aware of their rights and duties.

2. Our country follows the system of representative democracy. People elect their representatives to run the government. Elections for both Central and State Legislatures are normally held every five years. In case the government falls earlier, election may be held early.

3. In our country, we have universal adult franchise which means all citizens above the age of eighteen years have the Right to vote
