the role of dalit was that, when Mahatma Gandhi saw that in every movement dalit s were not taking part . then they requested them to join this movement.
this was the first movement in which Dalits took part .they played a very important role in this movement .

a) Initially Congress had ignored Dalits of fear of offending the Sanatanis , the conservative high caste Hindus.
b) But Mahatma Gandhi believed that Swaraj would come for 100 years if untpuchability was not eliminated.
c) He called them 'Harijans' and he himself cleaned toilets to dignify the work of sweepers.
d) But many dalit leaders demanded reserved seats in educational institutions and a separate electorate.
e) So dalit participation in CDM was limited.
