  • Decomposers play a significant role in the flow of energy through an ecosystem as they break asunder dead organisms into simpler inorganic substances or compounds which makes the availability of nutrients to primary producers. In simple words, the role of decomposers in a food web is to break down the dead substance and make it into nutrients for the improvement of soil fertility.

  • Rotten fruit is not truly wasted because many parts of the plants particularly fruit can produce ethylene. And ethylene is a gas, and hence it can just move through the air from one place to another. And one of the roles of ethylene is to ripen fruit. And it makes the unripened fruit move past the ripened stage to the starting to decay stage, so it results in the fruit ripening.
