Decomposers help to break down the organic nutrients and energy that is left behind when an animal or plant dies. They release nutrients and energy back into the soil thus making the soil fertile. They decompose these biodegradable substances to form carbon dioxide which they respire as well as nutrients. They decompose the waste matter of plants and animals thus cleaning the environment. Hence decomposers are very important in the ecosystem as they maintain an ecological balance.
