The synthesis of proteins occurs in two sequential steps - /

  • Transcription - /

  • Transcription occurs in the cell nucleus and uses the base sequence of DNA ( Deoxyribonucleic Acid ) to produce M - RNA.

  • The M - RNA carries the message for making a specific protein out to the cytoplasm where translation occurs.

  • Translation - /

  • Translation converts the information in a series of three letter words in the M - RNA into a sequence of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins .
